Last year I had the great pleasure of working with Kathi Wolfe on her last collection of poems, The Porpoise in the Pink Alcove. Along with Grace Cavalieri, we came up with a striking and innovative design for her book.
With her passing on Saturday, I was saddened by the loss of this unique voice in our poetry community. In her widely published poems, Kathi advocated for the queer and disabled. She lent her unique voice to the local newspaper, Washington Blade. In addition to The Porpoise in the Pink Alcove (2023), her collections include Love and Kumquats (2019), The Uppity Blind Girl Poems (2015), The Green Light (2013), and Helen Takes the Stage: the Helen Keller Poems (2008).
Digging through our Café Muse archive, I found a poignant reading of an introspective poem, Breaking Up With Myself. It’s from a Zoom reading held on September 12, 2022.
Here is a link to the complete program featuring Kathi and poet, Ellen Sazzman.
Kathi Wolfe will be missed by all.
A Box of Books
It’s always rewarding to get the author’s copies of a new book of poems. My Book of Singing Eyes will be released tomorrow at Amazon. It’s so different from anything I’ve done. I had to put aside my cynicism to create these little spoonfuls of hope.
