Love
In three Poems
Last Sunday, I had the pleasure of appearing with poet Karren Alenier at Phill Wexler’s Word’s Out Loud series in Kensington. In case you missed it, here’s a link to the full reading. Going through the video, I was struck by the many ways the poets expressed the extraordinary ways of love. It can celebrate. It can heal. It can bring calm in a storm and show us the wonder in all things near and distant. Love always knows the way home. Here are three takes on love.
The Distance
It was a pleasure for me to read from each of my three collections, American Software, Binary Planet and Screens. I have love poems in all of the books. The Distance is one of my favorites from the first collection.
Thirteen Reasons for Crossing
Karren Alenier’s heartfelt collection, How We Hold On was published following the untimely passing of her husband Jim. A full program of Alenier reading her poems from How We Hold On was recorded in 2021. I had a little fun going back down memory lane, you might like to see it as well.
Thirteen Reasons for Crossing was born out of a love for Jamaica and the adventure of a couple crossing a perilous bridge. What follows is a richly textured tale of Caribbean delight and a reminder that love is always waiting for us on the other side of our escapades.
Q.R. Quasar
One of the most prolific live readers in the DC area, Quasar’s signature move is to be last on the sign-up sheet. His style is dramatic and the one thing I always look for when I listen to Quasar is his all encompassing love of the cosmos.
Thanks, Quasar for giving us a “garden green and lush.”
