East of Manhattan
Let me share a bit of my personal background growing up Queenside in New York City. I have a moody reading of my poem East of Manhattan from my first collection of poems, American Software. The poem speaks to adolescent love on the working class shores of the East River, where New York is both a dream and a shadow. Here’s the short video:
My most recent chapbook is Prehistory. It’s a small collection of poems in which I attempt to capture the experience of pre-linguistic childhood — like an anthropologist digging out the shell remains of memories before there were words to express them. All the poems in the chapbook are titled after colors. This is Yellow:

Today marks the 200th anniversary of the first performance of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. A lot could be said, but better to just listen. Here’s my favorite online version performed by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Riccardo Muti at the helm.
