Clifford Bernier - A River of a Poet
I learned this week of the passing of Clifford Bernier. Back in March, I spotlighted his chapbook, Wetlands and read a poem from the book. I’d like to remember Clifford by reading the concluding poem from Wetlands, James, a poem that celebrates the quiet majesty of the James River.
A poet is one who senses that the world has another kind of logic, one more connected to our spiritual self. Clifford Bernier gave us a world that begins with nature and finds balance in the harmony of a long flowing river.
The Everyday Poet in France
I’ll be overseas for the next couple of weeks and will not be posting to Substack. In the meantime, please feel free to email me at henrycrawfordpoetry@gmail.com with any feedback you think would make this Substack better. I try to create content out of the bits of experience that happen to me each week. Not wanting to add to our already overburdened screen time, I prefer to keep things brief. I also use the platform for experiments with new work and readings that incorporate video and music, always looking for new ways to write and present poems. Let me know if you have any suggestions.
